Learn to Knit - From Thread to First Creation
This hands-on course is designed for complete beginners as well as anyone who wants to refresh their knitting skills. Step by step, you will create your first project -such as a beanie, balaclava, or scarf-at your own pace.
Content:
The course covers the fundamentals of knitting: casting on, knit and purl stitches, and simple patterns. Participants will learn how to increase and decrease stitches and complete a small first project. Practical tips on yarn and knitting needles are included, and participants will be guided on how to continue practicing at home.
Method:
The course is practical and hands-on, allowing participants to learn at their own pace. Techniques are demonstrated and practiced step by step. Individual support is provided throughout. Materials can be purchased from the instructor for a fee, enabling participants to continue practicing between sessions.
Goal:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Follow a simple knitting pattern with confidence
- Apply basic techniques such as ribbing and increases/decreases
- Complete small projects independently at home
- Make informed choices about yarn and needles

The instructor, Sara Stenbæk, is a knitting and crochet designer with long-standing experience in textile art, upcycling, and creative projects for young people and adults. She holds a B.A. in Humanities (Psychology, Philosophy, and Philosophy of Science) from the University of Roskilde, Denmark, and an M.A. in Applied Anthropology and Community Art from Goldsmiths University of London. The craft of knitting and crochet has been passed down through her family over many generations. In her courses, she teaches practical skills and empowers participants to create their own garments.
